FLAMINGO POETRY CHAPTER-4
A Roadside Stand Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE

A Roadside Stand - Proper Summary in English Language)

SUMMARY IN ENGLISH (For CBSE Board)

This poem is by Robert Frost.

In village, beside highway, a poor farmer has made a small roadside stand (shop). He wants to sell wild berries, squash (like pumpkin) there so that rich city people who go fast in cars will stop and buy his goods, so he gets some money and can also live like city people.

But city people don't stop at his shop. They drive fast and think this stand spoils beauty of road. They complain that this stand has ruined roadside view, its letters are wrong, paint is bad.

Farmer waits with much hope that some car will stop and buy. He does not expect thousands of rupees, he just wants city people to give some money for his goods so he can progress. But no one stops. Some cars stop also only to ask where is road or where is petrol, not to buy goods.

Poet says government says it will help these poor people, take them near city, but actually government deceives them. Government people say we will give you good houses, but they take them away from their jungle and freedom and exploit them.

Farmer's money goes to cinema, to rich people's hands, poor remains poor. Poet is very sad about big gap between rich and poor. Rich people don't understand poor's feelings.

At end poet says he himself is also sad with this pain and thinks if only he could finish pain of these poor people at once.

Poem teaches we should help poor farmers, not break their hopes, gap between rich and poor should end.

A Thing of Beauty Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE

This poem is by John Keats.

Poet says a thing of beauty is a joy forever. Its beauty never ends, never becomes old, but increases with time. It keeps us happy forever.

Our life is full of sadness, sufferings, disappointments, diseases, gloom. We fail, people are bad, we become sad. But beautiful things save us from all these sorrows and give us reason to live.

What are beautiful things? - Sun, moon, old and young trees, green forests, water streams, flowers - daffodils blooming in green forest, clear streams giving coolness.

And more beautiful things are - stories of brave people which inspire us, like tales of heroes. And poet says beauty gives us heavenly feeling, as if we are in heaven.

How do beautiful things help us? Like a garland of flowers gives us peace, like a shady tree saves us from sun, same way beautiful things save us from sorrows and give us happiness.

Poet at end says beautiful things will remain forever, never end. Beauty is truth and truth is beauty. So we should love beautiful things because they give us joy forever.

A THING OF BEAUTY - LONG QUESTION ANSWER (5-6 Marks)

_Q1. What does John Keats say about a thing of beauty?_

_Ans:_ John Keats says a thing of beauty is joy forever. Its loveliness never passes into nothingness (never ends), but its beauty increases with time. It gives us joy forever.

Life is full of despondence, gloom, sadness, sufferings, dearth of noble natures, unhealthy and o'er darkened ways, spite and pall of sadness covering life.

But beautiful things remove this pall and give us joy. They give us quiet bower (shady peaceful place), sleep full of sweet dreams, health and quiet breathing and reason to live.

Beautiful things are sun, moon, old and young trees giving shady boon, sheep, green world, daffodils blooming in green, clear rills giving cooling covert, musk-rose blooms, grandeur, tales of mighty dead (inspiring stories of brave heroes), endless fountain of immortal drink from heaven.

Thus beauty is eternal, gives happiness forever and removes sadness.

_Q2. What is central idea or theme of A Thing of Beauty?_

_Ans:_ Central idea is that a thing of beauty is joy forever, it never ends, its beauty increases, and it removes sadness and gives happiness and reason to live.

Keats, romantic poet, loves beauty and nature. Though life is full of sadness, sufferings, gloom, despondence, lack of noble people, unhealthy dark ways, spite, beautiful things save us.

Beautiful things are natural - sun, moon, old and young trees, shady boon, green forests, daffodils, clear rills, musk-rose blooms, sheep - and also brave tales of mighty dead and endless fountain of nectar from heaven which inspire.

Beautiful things give us quiet bower, sweet dreams, health, quiet breathing, heavenly feeling. Beauty is truth and eternal. We should love beauty because it gives joy forever and removes sorrow.

Poem teaches optimism and love for nature and beauty.

FLAMINGO POETRY CHAPTER-2
Keeping Quiet Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE

Keeping Quiet - Proper Summary in English Language)

SUMMARY IN ENGLISH (For CBSE Board)

This poem is by Pablo Neruda.

Poet says now we will count to 12 and we will all keep still. Counting to 12 means 12 hours of clock - symbol of time, all people together keep quiet.

He says once we all keep still together, no one moves, no one speaks, all remain quiet. We all stop speaking in our own languages, stop moving hands. For one moment we do no work.

If we do so, we will get a strange moment - moment of peace. In this silence we will understand ourselves. We will see how busy we are, how noisy we are.

Poet says he does not want death-like silence. He wants we keep quiet in life itself once. In death all become quiet anyway, but keeping quiet in life is more important.

He says today's world people are in much hurry. Fishermen are killing fishes in sea, but if they stop for a moment they will not harm whales also. Salt collectors also if stop, they will look at their hurt hands.

Those who make wars, make poisonous gases, use weapons, if they keep quiet for a moment, they will understand their war is useless. They will walk with their brothers in green clothes, without war.

Poet wants we all for a moment stop our work and introspect. Then we will understand we all are one, we are all connected. We will not hate each other.

At end poet says he will count to 12 and go, we all keep quiet. This quietness will give us peace, teach brotherhood and we can make world better.

Poem teaches that peace, introspection and brotherhood make world beautiful, not hurry and war.

My Mother at Sixty-Six Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE

My Mother at Sixty-Six - Proper Summary in English Language)

SUMMARY IN ENGLISH (For CBSE Board)

This poem is by Kamala Das about her own mother.

Poet is going to Cochin airport with her mother in a car. Her mother is 66 years old and sleeping beside her in car. Her face is pale white and sad, like a corpse face. Poet remembers her childhood fear - fear of losing mother.

To divert attention, poet looks outside window of car. Outside young trees are running fast backwards, as if sprinting. And small children are happily coming out and playing, laughing. These young trees and children are symbols of life and youth, while mother is symbol of old age and death.

When they reach airport, after security check, poet again looks at mother. Mother's face is pale, weak, like winter's moon. In winter, moon is pale and dim, same like mother's face.

Poet again feels same old pain and fear - fear of losing mother. But she smiles and says - "Mother, see you soon." That smile is only to show, so that mother may not feel sad, but inside she is very sad.

Poem teaches that children fear losing their old mother, old age and death is truth, but we have to smile and bid goodbye.

At airport after security check, poet again sees mother pale like late winter's moon (pale, dim moon). She feels old familiar ache of childhood - fear of losing mother.

Poet feels old familiar ache but hides pain with smile and says "See you soon, Amma" to comfort mother. Poem teaches that old age and death is inevitable, children fear losing parents, love for parents, and we have to hide pain with smile at time of parting.

VISTAS CHAPTER-6
Memories of Childhood Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE

*Part-1: The Cutting of My Long Hair - Zitkala-Sa (जिटकाला-सा)*

*Part-2: We Too Are Human Beings - Bama (बामा)*

VISTAS CHAPTER-5
On the Face of It Class 12 Question Answer | English Notes By Atul Sir। UP Board & CBSE
