तभी क्रॉकर-हैरिस आते हैं। वह बहुत गंभीर हैं। टैप्लो डर जाता है। क्रॉकर-हैरिस कहते हैं कि टैप्लो ने जो एक्स्ट्रा काम किया था, उसका रिजल्ट आया है - उसने 5 में से 4 नंबर लिए हैं, और उसे अभी भी क्लासिक्स में कमजोर माना जाता है।
टैप्लो उदास हो जाता है, पर क्रॉकर-हैरिस उसे समझाते हैं कि उसने मेहनत की है, और वह पास हो जाएगा।
तभी क्रॉकर-हैरिस की पत्नी आती है, वह बहुत मॉडर्न है और अपने पति से खुश नहीं है। वह कहती है कि क्रॉकर-हैरिस को स्कूल से निकाला जा रहा है क्योंकि वह बूढ़े हो गए हैं और पढ़ाने का तरीका पुराना है।
अंत में टैप्लो क्रॉकर-हैरिस को एक छोटा सा गिफ्ट देता है - ब्राउनिंग की किताब "The Agamemnon" का अनुवाद। यह किताब क्रॉकर-हैरिस ने खुद लिखी थी।
क्रॉकर-हैरिस गिफ्ट देखकर बहुत भावुक हो जाते हैं, उनकी आँखों में आँसू आ जाते हैं। वह कहते हैं कि यह उनके जीवन का सबसे अच्छा गिफ्ट है। वह पहली बार टैप्लो से इंसान की तरह बात करते हैं।
